Diesel Generators:

  • Heavy-Duty Construction: Because they operate at very high compression pressures, their engine blocks, cylinder heads, pistons, crankshafts, and valves are built significantly stronger and heavier to withstand the stress.

  • No Spark System: The absence of spark plugs and ignition coils eliminates a common maintenance point and source of failure.

  • Lifespan: A well-maintained diesel generator can easily last 10,000 to 30,000 hours before requiring a major overhaul. They are engineered for continuous duty.

Gasoline Generators:

  • Lighter Construction: Designed for lower pressures and RPMs, gasoline engines use lighter materials. While this makes them cheaper and quieter, it reduces their overall service life.

  • Ignition System Maintenance: Spark plugs, wires, and coils require regular inspection and replacement.

  • Lifespan: A typical gasoline generator has a lifespan of 1,000 to 2,000 hours before major service may be needed. They are best suited for light, intermittent use.
